Why it matters.

Unspoken feedback curdles; badly spoken feedback burns. Specific, behavioural feedback is the only kind that improves work and keeps the relationship.

What success looks like.

  • One feedback conversation about behaviour, not character.
  • Specific examples instead of general verdicts.
  • An agreed change recorded — and followed up.

The component skills.

Behaviour vs personSpecific examplesAgreed next step

Typical mistakes.

  • — 'You always…' — verdicts on people, not behaviour.
  • — Feedback without an example, which is just an opinion.
  • — No follow-up: feedback that never checks whether it worked.

Practise — activities that produce artifacts.

Behaviour-vs-person rewrite ~20 min

Take one complaint you've been holding and rewrite it as behaviour + impact + request ('When X happened, Y was the impact; I'm asking for Z').

Artifact: The rewritten feedback

The specific-example builder ~15 min

For your rewritten feedback, write the one specific recent example that proves it — a real moment, not a pattern you're sure of.

Artifact: The example, with date and moment

Missions — do it for real.

Mentors for this capability.

Matched from real, opted-in Lifelong Careers members through the Mentor Intelligence Network — with their trust states shown as stored. Source-listed is not the same as verified.

No opted-in mentors match this capability yet — none are invented. See the Mentors view or the full directory.

How assessment works.

Every submission gets a transparent first-pass against the mission's rubric — what was looked for and what was observed. Verified state requires a real review; the system never upgrades self-reported evidence on its own.

clarity

Short sentences, concrete words, no unexplained jargon

audience_fit

Words and comparisons the audience can follow

question_handling

Answers with point-reason-example; unknowns admitted openly

follow_through

What happened afterwards — the result and what changed

self_awareness

Honest signals: what you noticed, what was hard, what you'd change

Accepted evidence: mission_submission, mentor_review, observed_application, work_sample.

Stated plainly — what this doesn't do

  • — Submissions are private, self-reported evidence — they never become verified without a real review.
  • — Mentor review for capabilities arrives in a later phase of this module.
